Welcome to mlccancerfoundation.org. This website is run by MLC Cancer Foundation ("MLC," "we," "us"). MLC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 46-1429619) based in Martinsville, Virginia, that helps people facing any type of cancer, anywhere in the United States. By using this website, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
How we handle your personal information is explained in our Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.
1. Information on this site is not medical advice
Everything on this website, including articles, news, event talks and program descriptions, is for general information only. It is not medical, legal or financial advice, and it does not replace advice from your doctor or another qualified professional. Always talk with your health care provider about your diagnosis, treatment and screening needs.
MLC is not an emergency service. If you have a medical emergency, call 911. If you are in crisis, call or text 988.
2. Financial assistance applications
When you apply for help through our Get Help page or our paper form:
- You agree to give true and complete information. You confirm this with the certification checkbox on the application. False or misleading information may lead us to deny or withdraw assistance.
- Applying does not guarantee assistance. Every request is reviewed individually. Approval depends on eligibility, documentation and available funds, and decisions are made at MLC's discretion.
- Approved assistance is paid to you. MLC sends the approved amount to you, the applicant, and you are responsible for paying the bill. MLC does not pay hospitals, pharmacies or other vendors on your behalf.
- Some expenses are not covered. These include auto loans, insurance premiums, and experimental or unapproved treatments.
- We may verify your information. If you check the authorization box, we may contact your treating provider to confirm your diagnosis and treatment.
- Assistance is a gift, not an entitlement. Receiving help once does not guarantee help in the future.
3. Forms and messages you send us
When you use our contact, RSVP, screening sign-up, sponsorship or email sign-up forms, you agree to give accurate information and to use the forms only for their intended purpose. Please don't submit anything unlawful, abusive or harmful, or information about another person without their permission.
4. Sponsorships
Submitting a sponsorship inquiry does not create a sponsorship agreement. Sponsorship levels, benefits and payment terms are confirmed in writing between MLC and the sponsor.
5. Donations
- Online gifts are processed by PayPal and Venmo on their own websites, under their own terms and privacy policies. MLC never sees or stores your card or bank details.
- MLC is a 501(c)(3) organization, so gifts are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. We can provide a receipt for your records. Please talk with a tax advisor about your own situation.
- Gifts are generally non-refundable. If you made a mistake, such as a wrong amount or a duplicate gift, email us within 30 days and we will review it.
- MLC decides how donated funds are used to carry out its mission, unless we agree in writing to a specific restriction.
6. A Pink Event and other events
- An RSVP or screening sign-up helps us plan. Space, times and activities may change, and we may need to reschedule or cancel an event.
- Free health screenings are offered only at A Pink Event. They are performed by independent, licensed health partners, not by MLC. A screening is not a diagnosis. Please follow up with your own health care provider about any result.
- Taking part in event activities, including screenings and cooking demonstrations, is voluntary and at your own risk.
- Photos and video. MLC may photograph or film its events and use those images on its website, social media and printed materials to share its work. If you'd prefer not to be featured, let a volunteer know at the event or email us afterward.
7. Our content
The MLC name, butterfly logo, "We CAN beat CANcer" tagline, text, photos, graphics and videos on this site belong to MLC or are used with permission. You're welcome to share links to our pages and to use our materials for personal, non-commercial purposes, such as sharing an event with friends. Please don't copy, change or use our name, logo or content for commercial purposes, or in a way that suggests we endorse you, without our written permission.
8. Acceptable use
When using this site, please don't:
- Break any law or anyone else's rights
- Try to access parts of the site, our systems or other people's information without permission
- Upload viruses or other harmful code, or interfere with how the site works
- Pretend to be someone else, or submit an application on someone's behalf without their permission (a parent or guardian may apply for a minor)
- Use automated tools to collect information from the site
9. Links to other websites
Our site links to other websites, such as PayPal, Venmo, news articles, social media and our partners. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content or privacy practices.
10. No warranties
We work hard to keep this website accurate and available, but it is provided "as is" and "as available." We don't promise that the site will always be error-free, up to date or uninterrupted. Program details, eligibility and event information can change.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, MLC and its board, staff, volunteers and partners are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of this website or reliance on its content. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under the law.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll post the new version on this page and update the effective date above. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Any dispute related to this website will be handled in the state or federal courts serving Henry County or the City of Martinsville, Virginia.
